MEET THE GOVERNORS

Henrietta Alderman

Chair

I have lived in Winterslow for over 20 years. I moved here when my three children were in secondary school. I have always felt that the school was the heart of the village and nurturing future generations in their early years within a caring culture and with strong values is an incredibly important role within the community. I am delighted to be a Foundation Governor and will do all I can to assist the ongoing excellence of the school. My background is in organisational governance and management and I have held trustee and non-executive director roles. Since leaving full time work in 2021 I have enjoyed having the time to contribute to the community in various ways. Being a Foundation Governor enables me to use my skills for the benefit of the school and it is a very rewarding experience. I have five grandchildren and they all attend faith schools. I am familiar with the ethos and values that are very much embedded within Winterslow Church of England school and I am delighted to play a small part in its ongoing sparkling future.

Carolyn Port

Foundation Governor

My children both attended Winterslow Primary School and I was heavily involved with the school during their time there, spending time serving on FOWS and as a Foundation Governor for 8 years, including 4 years as Chair of Governors.  Despite no longer having children in the school (they are 18 and 21!) I have a deep and long-lasting affection for Winterslow School and its amazing staff and children and am happy to spend my time and energy for their benefit.  Winterslow is a very special school with a lovely Christian culture and ethos and I am proud to play a part in its governance. My background is in education, having spent time teaching in primary and secondary schools and at sixth form level, working in educational support as an exams officer and admissions officer, and as a Childcare Advisor and Play Manager at Wiltshire Council.  I am currently also Chair of the Management Committee of the John McNeill Opportunity Centre.  I now run my own training company delivering first aid, mental health, and safeguarding and teacher training and teaching piano and music theory, and quality assuring other training organisations.

Mike Jones

Vice Chair

Community

Governor

I'm a Community Governor at Winterslow which has educated both my eldest daughter (who left Y6 in 2022) and continues to teach my youngest (Y5) since my family moved into the area nearly six years ago. I aim to help both our school community and the wider Winterslow community sparkle through supporting Mrs Malcolm and Mrs Groth in going above and beyond; e.g. being a dyslexia friendly school and our first-class SEND provision.  I work locally as a project manager and in my spare time I like running and travelling.

Alan Chatt

          Foundation Governor

I am delighted to be taking on the role of a Foundation Governor at Winterslow Primary School. My wife and I have lived in the village since 2009, and this school was a big factor in our decision to move here. Both of our children have thrived at Winterslow school, my eldest finished in 2020 and my youngest is in Year 6 in Swallows. I have seen how Winterslow School’s unique curriculum, ethos and Christian values have not only given my children and their classmates an excellent education, but also the opportunity to grow, flourish, and be well prepared for life beyond primary school. I look forward to playing my part to help ensure all children at Winterslow Primary School have the same positive experience that mine have enjoyed. Outside of school responsibilities my passion has always been in computing. Originally from Essex, I graduated from University of Southampton with a Software Engineering Masters and currently work at IBM, based just outside of Winchester, as a Product Manager responsible for product strategy. As everyone with a young family will know there is precious little time for anything else, but any day now I hope to re-embrace my love of cycling… any day now!

Ed Burdick

Parent

Governor

I have lived in Winterslow since 2022 and am delighted to serve as a Foundation Governor at Winterslow Primary School. I value the school’s place at the heart of the village and its commitment to helping every child explore, discover and sparkle within a caring, inclusive and faith‑centred environment. My background is in science and project delivery. I studied Molecular Biology to doctoral level and now work within the public sector working on scientific project management, where I support complex programmes, good governance and effective decision making. My academic and professional experience has given me a strong appreciation of curiosity, enquiry and problem‑solving, qualities that sit at the heart of the school’s “Explore and Discover” approach to learning. As a Foundation Governor, I am particularly committed to supporting the Christian vision and values that underpin daily life at the school, helping to ensure children feel safe, valued and supported to grow academically, socially, and spiritually. Living locally, I am proud to contribute to the ongoing life of the school and the wider Winterslow community.

Becky Hicks

Parent Governor

I have two children at Winterslow School, a son in Woodpeckers and a daughter in Wrens.  I volunteer at school and am particularly excited to bring farming experiences into the children’s education, through talking about harvest and milking cows. I've also helped to arrange opportunities for the children to go on trips to a local farm to see lambs being born. When the opportunity arose to serve the school as parent governor I was keen to offer my skills and support to bring more of the "Explore and Discover" into school. I have several jobs, I work for the Leckford Estate (John Lewis Partnership), and on two other farms milking cows and rearing calves. In my spare time I love being out in the countryside and being with my family, dogs and donkeys.

Rev. Simon Chambers

        Foundation Governor

I have been involved with church schools for the past twenty-five and have a passion for children to be educated in an environment where Christian values ensure all are equally valued. Ordained in 2002, I have spent almost all my ministry in rural village communities with their schools and so I have a love for local, friendly and a personal approach to not only faith but also to education. Born in 1965 I am a ‘late father’ and have children of my own who having left Winterslow school are now in secondary level, so appreciate the concerns of parents while understanding the needs of the wider school and its responsibilities. Before I was ordained, I was a founding company director of a small electronic engineering company based in Dorset manufacturing and installing Vision Systems to industry all over the world. I have the privilege of leading church led Collective Worship for the whole school once a week, and enjoy seeing the school engage in bible stories and seeing them ‘sparkle as light of the world’.

Dr Bethan Hussey
